TCFM supported this international courier in mobilising their new BREEAM Outstanding 24/7/365 facility in Coventry.

  • Coventry is Europe’s second largest site for this courier company and the first operationally carbon neutral new build in Europe.
  • The site spans 900,000 square feet and is designed to accommodate retail and consumer brands that have omnichannel needs.
  • It features high-capacity racking, a state of the art pick system, and three levels of mezzanine flooring for lightweight goods.
  • Additional automated features include autonomous cleaning robots, a mobile wrapping robot, and a dimensioning system that automatically measures the size and volume of parcels and pallets for quicker categorisation and sorting.

    • TCFM began work on the site a month before the facility’s official opening.

    • The construction team handed over areas in stages for a full sparkle clean to ensure the highest standards from day one.

    • We ensured that each area was recleaned and approved to ensure no noise from our cleaning services.

  • Seamless Launch

    • TCFM utilised colleagues from sister sites to prepare the new colleagues and site for go live, providing hands on training, best practices and insights.

    • Due to our significant experience in the distribution sector, we ensured subject matter experts from operations and business support were on hand to assist in the site’s launch.

    • We also utilised external subject matter experts from our supply chain to ensure that the machinery was on site, set up and ready to go.

    • A new team was successfully assembled within two weeks, with all roles filled by the end of the contract’s first week.
    • Despite receiving a high volume of applications, a rigorous selection process ensured the recruitment of a capable and high-performing workforce.
  • Retention and Team Cohesion
    • A firm zero-tolerance approach to misconduct in the early stages contributed to the retention of Regional Operations Manager. This group has remained united and consistently effective throughout the first year.
  • Training and Onboarding

    • All new hires participated in a customised induction session and completed their iHasco training modules within one week, meeting the seven-day deadline for all required courses.

    • Weekly audits until the site had fully mobilised moving to monthly thereafter.

    • Weekly with TCFM’s project team and their Mobilisation run through Asana project management system for full transparency and auditing.

    • Having learned from other distribution sites, we went to Coventry knowing how to mobilise according to their requirements, removing any noise from the mobilisation.

    • We ensured weekly meetings and regular site visits with the customer to ensure we understood and reacted to any changes quickly and effectively in line with the specification and their expectations.
